A wireman is responsible for the installation, wiring, and maintenance of electrical components within power substations and large-scale energy plants. From control panels to massive circuit breakers, they ensure the control systems of the power grid are wired for safety and reliability.

As a wireman for APS Solutions, your focus will be on the grid’s internal systems, including the intricate wiring and technical assembly that powers the energy infrastructure. You will install control panels, transformers, and high-voltage switchgear in substations and industrial facilities. Your work will involve routing conduit, terminating fiber optic cables, and performing diagnostic testing to ensure reliability. Ultimately, you will safeguard the flow of energy from the source to the community.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

Wiring

Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and one-line drawings for installation.

Measure, cut, bend, and install conduit systems.
Pull and route control and power cables through trenches and cable trays.

Equipment Installation

Install, terminate, and test control and relay wiring for power transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
Mount and wire control panels, battery banks, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.

Testing & Troubleshooting

Verify circuit integrity and troubleshoot wiring errors.

Safety

Adhere to safety regulations and procedures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follow lockout-tagout procedures.

Qualifications

Experience as a Wireman or Electrician, in a substation or heavy industrial setting.
Expert knowledge of AC/DC circuits, control systems, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
High manual dexterity for working with small-gauge control wiring.
Completion of an electrical apprenticeship or a Journeyman Electrician license is highly preferred.

Proficiency in CAD is preferred.
Fiber optic splicing and termination experience is preferred.

Requirements

Basic computer skills.

Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.

Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to complete multiple projects within time constraints.

Strong organizational skills.

Valid jurisdictional driver license.

Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds.

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.
Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
