Welder Job Job Overview

As a welder your job scope encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including interpreting blueprints, setting up welding equipment, and skillfully joining metal components using various techniques. This role demands precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work with different types of metals. Welders often collaborate with other tradespeople, ensuring the structural integrity of fabricated products. This position requires a strong understanding of safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries while operating heavy machinery and handling hot materials.

Job Functions & Qualifications

Essential Job Functions

Read blueprints, welding specifications, and work orders to determine the type and size of weld required.
Set up welding equipment, including electrodes, gas, and shielding gas.
Position components for welding according to specifications.
Weld components using various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, arc, etc.).
Inspect welded components to ensure they meet quality standards.
Maintain welding equipment in good working condition.
Adhere to safety regulations and wear appropriate protective gear.

Qualifications

Proven experience as a welder.
Proficiency in various welding techniques.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical ability to lift heavy objects.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Job Requirements for Every APS Assignment

Basic computer skills.

Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.

Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to complete multiple projects within time constraints.

Strong organizational skills.

Valid jurisdictional driver license.

Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.

Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.
