Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

Operational Control

- Start, stop, and monitor turbines.
- Ensure smooth operation and prevent equipment damage.
- Adjust turbine settings.
- Optimize efficiency and power output based on demand.

Maintenance & Reliability

- Inspect and maintain turbines.
- Conduct regular checks and perform maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
- Identify and resolve issues to minimize downtime.

Safety

Adhere to safety regulations and procedures.
Follow strict guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent: A solid foundation in math and science is beneficial.
Technical or vocational training: Programs in power plant technology or electrical engineering can provide valuable skills.
On-the-job training: Many power plants offer apprenticeship or training programs to develop turbine operator expertise.
Certifications: Obtaining certifications like the Power Plant Operator Certification (PPOC) can demonstrate your knowledge and skills.
Experience: Previous experience working in a power plant or related field can be advantageous.
Mechanical aptitude: Understanding how machinery works and troubleshooting mechanical issues.
Problem-solving skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment problems efficiently.
Attention to detail: Ensuring accurate monitoring and control of turbine operations.

Job Requirements for Every APS Assignment

Valid jurisdictional driver license.

Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.

Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
