Millwright Job Overview

As a Millwright Apprentice, you’ll gain invaluable hands-on experience under the guidance of seasoned professionals. Your daily tasks will encompass a wide range of machinery and equipment, including installation, maintenance, and repair. You’ll learn essential skills such as blueprint reading, precision measurement, and the proper use of hand and power tools.

As you progress, you’ll develop the expertise to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, align and balance machinery, and safely operate heavy equipment. You’ll also become proficient in welding, fabrication, and hydraulics. This role offers opportunities to work on diverse projects, from assembling intricate production lines to overhauling massive industrial equipment. By mastering the millwright trade, you’ll build a strong foundation for a rewarding career in manufacturing and industrial operations.

Job Functions & Qualifications

Essential Job Functions

Dismantle, assemble, move and align, machinery and equipment using; i.e.; hoists, cranes, chain falls, hand tools, power tools, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, micrometers, rules, squares, plumb bobs, dial indicators and/or laser alignment equipment
Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures
Perform material and machine inspections using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, rules, calipers, protractors, and torque wrenches
Perform machining and possible welding operations
Determine equipment specifications and prepare parts lists for purchasing, consisting of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic devices as needed to complete assigned projects
Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies and perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs as needed
Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine proper work procedures
Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments
Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments.

Qualifications

High school diploma and five (5+) years-experience or completion of trade school. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Must possess five (5+) years of previous commercial or industrial experience.
Ability to work in a fast passed manufacturing, construction, or maintenance environment.
A thorough knowledge of “Specific rotating equipment” and or components and equipment including the use of special test or validation for diagnostic purposes, if required.
Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel individually or in a team environment.
High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances.
Must be highly safety conscious and enhance the culture of safety.
Technical competence (understand software, hardware, networks, etc.)
Candidate must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Additional Job Functions

Travel will be required.
Ability to disassemble and reassemble complex rotating equipment – Bolting, Hydraulic Bolting, Flange Management, Small Bore Piping, Basic Rigging/Lifting, O/H Crane Operator
Proficient in the following: mechanical/technical skills, oral communications skills, critical thinking.
Manage time-sensitive tasks and maintain a schedule within operationally challenging environments.
Must work well both independently and in a team environment.

Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.

Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.
