A startup CRO (general) is a Control Room Operator (CRO) focused on the initial startup phases of major power generation or industrial energy projects. They work closely with engineering, commissioning, and operations teams to launch and deploy energy assets.

As a startup CRO (general) working for APS Solutions, you will be the central command point for bringing new industrial power and energy facilities online. You will monitor and manage the precise sequence of steps required for the safe and efficient pre-commissioning, commissioning, and initial startup of complex plant systems. Additionally, you will coordinate closely with field teams to ensure the controlled startup and smooth operation of major energy assets, bringing the facility reliably into service.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

System Operation

Operate and monitor plant systems (e.g., boiler, turbine, generator, balance of plant) from the control room using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Execute procedures for the safe startup, shutdown, and testing of plant equipment and systems.
Continuously monitor plant parameters and make adjustments to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
Review and provide feedback on standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Troubleshooting & Emergency Response

Rapidly identify, diagnose, and respond to abnormal operating conditions, alarms, and equipment malfunctions.
Initiate emergency procedures as required.

Coordination & Documentation

Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders regarding system status, activities, and clearance/tagging procedures.
Maintain accurate and detailed logs of operating conditions and events.

Safety

Adhere to safety regulations, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follow lockout-tagout procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification or military training.
An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Control room operating experience in a power generation facility or a heavy industrial processing plant.
Proficiency with DCS/SCADA interface.
Strong foundational knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, electrical generation, and mechanical systems.
Excellent decision-making skills under pressure.
Experience in a startup, commissioning, or construction-to-operations turnover environment is preferred.

Knowledge of specific plant control philosophies is a plus.

Valid jurisdictional driver license.

Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds.

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.
Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
