The role of QA/QC/CWI (Quality Assurance/Quality Control/Certified Welding Inspector) is responsible for performing inspections on welding, materials, and fabrication to ensure compliance with industry standards. Day-to-day activities include inspections, testing, documentation and audits.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

Inspection & Documentation

Perform inspections and tests on welding, materials, and fabrication to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
Maintain meticulous records of all inspections, tests, and non-conformances.
Prepare detailed reports outlining findings and corrective actions.

Audits

Conduct internal audits to verify adherence to quality control procedures and industry regulations.
Assist with external audits as needed.

Quality Assurance

Help develop and implement quality assurance and quality control procedures to enhance project efficiency and quality.
Identify and document non-conforming work or materials.
Work with project teams to resolve issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Promote a culture of safety.

Safety

Adhere to safety regulations and procedures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follow lockout-tagout procedures.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent.
A technical degree or relevant trade school education is a plus.
A valid CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification from the American Welding Society (AWS).
Experience in a QA/QC role, preferably within the power, energy, or a related heavy industrial sector.
Strong understanding of welding processes, metallurgy, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME, API).
Strong attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
Proficient with inspection tools and reporting software.

Requirements

Basic computer skills.

Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills.

Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to complete multiple projects within time constraints.

Strong organizational skills.

Valid jurisdictional driver license.

Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, working at elevations, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting 50 pounds.

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty, and able to wear personal protective equipment.
Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection, if required.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
